The KDE Community has just launched #Switch2Plasma, a social campaign targeted equally at Windows 7 users and Linux advocates who want to help spread the word.
Another option (my personal choice) elementary os or why not the Ubuntu
Just watch the short video/images and try it out. If you are not sure yet run it in the virtual machine first.
You can use VirtualBox for free or VMware Workstation Player.
There are hundreds of Linux flavors to chose from but if you don't know where to start I will list a few:
1. Ubuntu
2. Linux Mint (You can use Xfce edition for the low powered machines)
3. Elementary os
4. Zorin OS (if your machine is an old one they have a lite version also)
5. Manjaro
